How Toys Become Real. For children older than 4 years

The Velveteen Rabbit

MARGERY WILLIAMS BIANCO (1881-1944)

Margery Williams Bianco was an English-American author, primarily of children’s books. When she was 19 years old, she became a professional writer. She became world-famous after the publication of her book The Velveteen Rabbit. It was published in 1922 and it became an American bestseller. Even today, it is still an integral part of the American theatrical repertoire for children—most often at Christmas time. There are numerous adaptations of the book on television, in the movies and also a musical based on its story.

The book is a renowned and appreciated piece of literature in the Anglo-Saxon area and there are quite a few Polish theatre adaptations of this book for children.

In 1937, the author received the prestigious Newbery Honor for one of the most remarkable books for children. Newbery Honor is the first ever world’s prize for children’s books authors. Apart from children’s playfulness and imagination, the work of Margery Williams stands out for its spiritual nature. It presents the timeless themes of mutual understanding and comprehension to children and their parents.

WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME THE VELVETEEN RABBIT HAS ARRIVED IN SLOVAKIA!

The Velveteen Rabbit is a story of how and when toys become real.

In a figurative sense, it is a tender story of what we need the most—the understanding and comprehension of what does it mean to love someone.

How important is it to love. How important is it to dream. Toys within the author’s story feel human emotions and enter into real relationships. In this story, the animation of the inanimate objects represents the desire to fulfill one’s dreams.

It is a story of how a rabbit’s dream becomes real.
