Theatre

The Puppet Theatre at the Crossroads (in Slovak Bábkové divadlo na Rázcestí, in short BDNR) was established as a professional theatre in 1960 under the name Regional Puppet Theatre. It operated under this name until 1991. The renaming of the theatre was related to the political and social changes after 1989. The transformations in society were also reflected in changes in the dramaturgical and directional orientation of BDNR. In 2020, the theatre celebrated 60 years of its activity in Slovak professional theatre.

Since 2000, the theatre has been managed by the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region. Based on its founding charter, the theatre creates and publicly performs theatrical works. BDNR is a professional and cultural institution. It creates for the public and collaborates with all types of schools, from kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools to universities. It also cooperates with various social and cultural institutions both domestically and abroad. Its team consists of 25 – 27 people working in five sections of the theatre: production, economic department, studios, stage technology, and the artistic ensemble.
